d20 Modern Conversion: Vehicles

Well it sure took me long enough. Here's the rules for vehicles plus a small selection of sample vehicles.
Hey all, the first draft of the vehicle rules are finally here. Sorry it took so long, I got a little bit caught up planning the D&D session I'm running at the moment, and with revising the advanced classes further (next update!). To tell the truth I got a little disinterested with working on these rules after learning about the upcoming release of official vehicles rules in "Descent Into Avernus", but the result should be fairly usable. This version is largely based on the ships rules in "Ghosts of Saltmarsh", and aims to be as "rules-light" as possible, avoiding making specific action options and usage restrictions where possible.

I continually went back and forth as to whether or not I should include rules for accelerating and braking in the rules, as they appear in d20 Modern but not any 5th Edition content so far.. On the one hand, tracking the speed of a vehicle gives another number to worry about and possibly goes against the design philosophy of 5th Edition to make rules as simple as possible, and on the other without any sort of acceleration rules crashing isn't exactly a concern. n the end I opted to leave them out of the base rules, but left acceleration as an optional additional rule - hopefully the best of both worlds.

Another sticking point for me right now is whether or not vehicles should have their own turns, or simply allow passengers to take certain actions on their turns. While the former is obviously preferable for vehicles with many crew members who you don't want to track individually and works for vehicle on vehicle combat quite well, it would also seem strange for driving a car to not impact your turn at all. I'm not totally happy with the final version I went with, where vehicles have their own turns, and use up crew's actions outside of their turns. Having a character essentially use their action or bonus action on another entity's turn does feel a little strange and hard to word precisely. I'd certainly like to hear your thoughts on the topic.

There's also a small selection of some sample vehicles and vehicle modifications. The modifications work much the same way as I implemented weapons and armor modifications.

That's it for now. The next update should be fairly soon, and will consist of either new advanced classes or revisions to advanced classes, maybe a bit of both. I hope to see you then!
